Rough Sketch - Mucha Portrait, 2001 This piece can be attributed to two events on the day it was sketched out: a conversation between a friend and I in which we agreed that anyone would be stunning if painted (which this isn't, but eventually will be) in Mucha's style, and a flaky internet connection that chose to die in the middle of that conversation. On a lark, and to prevent myself from cursing loudly at the modem (any more than I already had), I grabbed a mirror and started sketching, keeping some of the basic elements of Mucha's work in mind. What's on the page and what I see in my head as the end result are very different things, so please don't start laughing out loud just yet. I will always wonder whose lips those are, as they certainly aren't mine.
